Deluxe Cowboy Duster, Denim
Western Range Coat, Riding Duster, Prairie Coat, Cowboy Duster
Duster, full length western cowboy riding coat
Slightly heavier weight than the cotton canvas in this online catalog. It has a detachable rain shawl that protects the shoulders and upper back. At the waist it has half belts that can be tightened to give a better fit and reduce wind circulation. It is a more authentic western range coat than others in the catalog.
Only one detail might make this coat less representative of the early 1800’s garb. It has snap closures rather than buttons. Early Western coats of the 1800s would have had buttons. Snaps were not commonly used until about 1890.
Duster, full length western denim coat with split tail, snap-closure front, flap pockets and front flap. This duster features the typical waist high tail split that allows the tails to cover the rider’s legs while on horseback.

Dusters, sometimes called range coats, range coats or riding dusters were originally intended to protect horseback riders from the dust
of the trail. Some dusters were treated as oilcloth to make them water resistant as well. Dusters have
stayed in use through many applications. When automobiles debuted, passengers were typically exposed
to the elements. Dusters kept clothing relatively clean during rides on dirt roads. This denim duster is
amply cut, allowing enough room for holster, vest, or day coat to be worn underneath.
Dusters are almost always single-breasted and full cut with a modest flare. Although dusters are available
in a variety of styles, the typical range coat is strongly associated with Western wear, the old west, gamblers, traveling frontier salesmen, ranch hands and gunslingers.
